Building an Agentic AI Platform for Energy Trading
Key Outcomes
- Reduced trade analysis time from 4 hours to 15 minutes
- Processed 50TB+ of historical market data
- Deployed 8 specialized AI agents in production
- Achieved 95% accuracy in price forecasting
Challenge
A major energy trading company was drowning in data. They had decades of market data, real-time feeds from multiple exchanges, weather patterns, and regulatory filings—but no systematic way to leverage it for trading decisions.
Their analysts spent hours manually correlating data sources, and by the time they finished their analysis, market conditions had often changed.
Key problems:
- Fragmented data across 20+ legacy systems
- No unified data platform
- Manual analysis processes taking 4+ hours per trade decision
- Inability to process real-time market signals
- No governance framework for AI/ML initiatives
Our Approach
We designed and implemented a complete agentic AI platform, built on a modern data lake architecture:
Phase 1: Data Foundation (6 weeks)
- Built a unified data lake on AWS S3 with Delta Lake format
- Implemented real-time streaming pipelines for market feeds
- Created ETL processes for historical data migration (50TB+)
- Established data governance and access controls
Phase 2: Agentic Architecture (8 weeks)
- Designed multi-agent system using LangGraph
- Implemented 8 specialized agents:
- Market data analyst
- Weather correlation agent
- Regulatory filing scanner
- Price forecasting agent
- Risk assessment agent
- Trade recommendation synthesizer
- Backtesting agent
- Explainability agent
Phase 3: Production Deployment (4 weeks)
- Deployed on Kubernetes with auto-scaling
- Integrated with existing trading systems
- Implemented monitoring and observability
- Trained trading teams on the new system
Technical Architecture
The system follows a hub-and-spoke pattern:
Market Data → Streaming Layer → Data Lake → Agent Orchestrator
↓
[8 Specialized Agents working in parallel]
↓
Synthesis Agent → Trading Dashboard
Each agent is:
- Independently deployable
- Can use tools (databases, APIs, calculation engines)
- Maintains conversation context
- Can hand off to other agents
Outcomes
Speed: Trade analysis time reduced from 4 hours to 15 minutes
Scale: Processing 50TB+ of historical data + real-time feeds
Accuracy: 95% accuracy in short-term price forecasting (vs. 78% manual)
Adoption: 100% of trading desk now uses the system daily
The platform has become the primary decision-support tool for the trading desk, processing thousands of signals per day and providing explainable recommendations.
What the Client Said
"This isn't just faster—it's a completely different way of working. We're now able to consider factors we never had time to analyze before."

Tech Stack
- Data Lake: AWS S3, Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg
- Streaming: Kafka, Flink
- Orchestration: LangGraph, Temporal
- LLMs: GPT-4, Claude 3.5 Sonnet
- Deployment: Kubernetes, AWS EKS
- Monitoring: Datadog, custom LLM observability
Key Learnings
- Start with data: The AI agents are only as good as the data infrastructure
- Human-in-the-loop: Traders remain in control; agents recommend, humans decide
- Explainability matters: Every recommendation includes a clear reasoning trail
- Governance from day one: Data access controls and audit logs were non-negotiable
This project took 18 weeks from kickoff to production deployment, with ongoing support for new agent capabilities.
